The MOLLE II is an integrated, modular load-carrying system designed to enhance the modern soldier's capabilities. It offers various configurations to allow soldiers to customize their equipment for specific mission needs. The MOLLE II system comprises the following items:
- Large Field Pack with an external frame and webbing to accommodate added components
- Medium Field Pack with an external frame and webbing to accommodate added components
- Fighting Load Carrier (FLC) with webbing
- Tactical Assault Pack (TAP) with harness, webbing, and pouches
- Waist Pack
- Assault Pack
- Compatible pouches and pockets
- Hydration System
- Additional mission-specific items
The MOLLE II system is made from water-repellent multicam camouflage fabrics and composites that meet military specifications. The Medium Pack has numerous internal and external compartments, allowing soldiers to organize their equipment efficiently. It features a top carrying handle with three hook-and-loop ports, enabling soldiers to route antennas, handsets, and hydration systems outside the pack.
The Tactical External Polymer Frame Series isolates the pack from the user's back, providing improved comfort and reserving space for other MOLLE equipment like the FLC and hydration system. The frame is easy and quick to assemble.
The shoulder strap suspension of the frame is adjusted by securing the vertical strap and the 2-inch webbing around the medium frame, using the slide buckle. The entire system or individual components can be quickly donned and doffed without impeding the user's head rotation or the carrying and shouldering of equipment in all positions.
Each MOLLE II set includes a repair kit (Buckle Set) for quick, common field repairs that can be performed by the individual soldier without any special skills or equipment.
The MOLLE Medium Rucksack was developed to accommodate a typical 24-72 hour mission, filling the capability gap between the existing Large Rucksack and the Assault Pack. The Medium Rucksack set includes the rucksack, waist belt, shoulder straps, and two side sustainment pouches, with the shoulder straps and waist belt pre-assembled to the polymer frame.
The Medium Rucksack provides up to 3,000 cubic inches of space and can carry over 65 pounds. The two detachable side sustainment pouches offer an additional 500 cubic inches each and can be attached to the medium field pack, the MOLLE large main pack, or the FLC.
The molded medium frame is contoured to fit the user's back and allow the use of other military equipment without discomfort. The medium frame is fitted to the hip belt with four attachment straps for adjustment.
